Newest UAV image sensors

by Jim Harrison

In case you didn’t see the recent PBS NOVA show on UAVs (The Rise of the Drones) there were some noteworthy facts about a new generation camera called Argus that may or may not be flying in combat zones already.

I thought it was interesting that it uses an imaging chip from a standard cellphone camera. But, it uses 368 devices in a mosaic – making it a 1.8 Bpixel sensor. It will produce around 500,000 Terabytes of data in one day and can resolve details as small as six inches from an altitude of 20,000 feet). No images of the imager are available yet.
