Great Caesar’s Ghost! Cambridge Consultants (Cambridge, UK, and Boston, MA, USA) has just brought to market a portable system, dubbed prism 200, that employs ultra-wide band (UWB) radar pulses to see through walls, giving users a high-tech equivalent of Superman’s X-ray vision.
Developed over the last two years, the system would allow military, security, and emergency personnel to see whether or not there are people inside a room before entering it. The unit weighs 5.4 kg and its design — modified since the prototype was unveiled in 2005 — lets users hold it against a wall with one arm. Videos of the unit in use can be seen at Cambridge Consultants’ Web site.
