The Web is still free

A federal jury in Tyler, TX, has just decided that claims asserted by patent-holding company EolasTechnologies, that it owns the technology which allows access to the interactive Web, were invalid. The decision cancels upcoming trials in which Google, YouTube, Yahoo, Amazon, Adobe, JC Penney, CDW Corp., and Staples would have been pressed for damages from patent infringement. Had the patent been upheld, any use of the Web as it exists today would have been subject to royalties.
