MWC ’11 in Pictures

More than 60,000 people from 200 countries attended the 2011 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona from Feb.14-17, breaking past attendance records and making it the marquee show for the global mobile industry.

This year, senior leaders buzzed around smartphones, tablets, compatibility over various networking platforms, and which markets to march into next. On the technology side, talk about amped-up graphics, 3-D imaging capabilities, super efficient power management, and touch screen ease-of-use made their way into most conversations.

Here’s some of what we saw on the ground.

A game running on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chip.

Motorola’s booth, the first since the company’s breakup, was, as usual, dramatic.

Cyprus Technologies’ recently-announced Resistive Stylus Replacement (RSR) support for capacitive touchscreens.

The Microsoft booth. The PC giant had a relatively understated presence in Barcelona, but after Nokia's announcement that it would use Microsoft's mobile OS, the booth drew crowds.

IMG_7: Google’s promotional Android pins were the week’s collectors items. By day two of the event they were already showing up on eBay.

Nokia phones, despite uncertainty over the Microsoft partnership, were ubiquitous -- the most commonly used for app demonstrations.
