If you are in Munich Germany you must go see the Deutsches Museum – wondrous place of science and technology old and new. Allow at least two hours, and four would be better. Be sure to check-out all three floors.
One item I looked at was the Gleichstrom Motor. The DC motor had a 1.5 KW output and was made in Frankfurt Germany in about 1895.
Portable power! The Beleuchtungswagen, or illumination carriage, of 1878 had a steam engine with belts that drove dual electric motors making about 5.9 KW. You can just see the copper commutator of one of the motors in the photo.
Munich is a beautiful city and the Deutsches is a great excuse to go for a visit. – Jim Harrison
