U.S. Department of Energy Clarifies EPS Testing Requirements

The DoE Clarifies EPS Testing Requirements: The U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) recently published a document further clarifying testing requirements for external power supplies. These specs are required for compliance with EISA 2007 standards.

Atmel maXTouch touchscreen technology

Another attraction at ESC. Atmel was showing, to great interest, its mXT224 is a 224-node configurable touchscreen controller. It seems to be really fast and accurate and can handle up to ten simultaneous touches. This IC targets cell phones and is used in the new HTC Droid Incredible with its 3.7 inch WVGA AMOLED capacitive [...]

The feel of ESC

There was a real positive mood at the Embedded Systems Conference. The in-booth, every half-hour, presentations, with their usual 15 to 20 chairs, were filled to over-flow at Microchip, Freescale, Atmel, Actel, and quite a few others. New product releases abound, and we’ll be covering those in the next few days on the web site. [...]

NXP shows smallness at Embedded Conference

Over at booth 1508 at ESC, NXP Semiconductors showed off the tiny LPC1102 32-bit microcontroller with a 2 x 2 mm footprint. The WLCSP chip-scale packaged MCU is based on a Cortex-M0 and takes only 130 ua/MHz in full operation. This surely sets a record for processing power/mm squared. It includes a 4-channel 10-bit A/D, [...]

Live from ESC

“The Usual Suspects–and some nice surprises”   Day 2 of the show was a dramatic change from day 1, with a less than full show floor and what appeared to be a more subdued group of engineers. We’ve been occupying the Digi-Key Tools Xpress booth, and giving away evaluation boards as part of our promotion [...]

Notes on Renesas/NEC Electronics From ESC

The merger of Renesas Technology and NEC Electronics is complete. This merger takes in all of the NEC MCU and memory business, but not other NEC products like computers and such. I spoke with the Renesas Electronics folks at the Embedded systems conference and they assured me that all NEC and Renesas MCUs will continue [...]
