California Energy Commission Approves First Mandatory TV Efficiency Standards

California Adopts Energy Diet for Flat Panel TVs: After almost three years in development, the California Energy Commission unanimously voted to amend the state’s Appliance Efficiency Regulations to include tighter mandatory energy efficiency standards for televisions – the first TV efficiency standard in the U.S. After tier 1 becomes effective in 2011, TVs are projected to consume 33% less electricity.
